Pedro Goes Today

Over at Baseball Musings, one of the "games of the day" is the match-up of two "former Cy Young Award winners in Atlanta as Pedro Martinez faces John Smoltz."

I used to love Pedro, and, so long as he receives universal worship and praise, he is very lovable. But then his shoulder got torn and frayed (sounds like something Mick Jagger would say), and his performance slipped, and, when Schill arrived, Petey was no longer the ace of the staff. So Pedro sulked and whined and became a baseball version of Rodney Dangerfield ("I don't get no respect.")

It was time for him to move on. Theo was wise to invest in Clement and Renteria and let Pedro and his salary demands and his attitude move to New York. Let's see what happens there.
